Iranian ambassador assesses welfare of inmates jailed in Turkey
TEHRAN – Iranian ambassador to Turkey Mohammad Hassan Habibollahzadeh recently paid a visit to Sincan Prison in Ankara to assess the conditions and well-being of Iranian nationals incarcerated there.
This visit was part of the embassy’s ongoing efforts to monitor the treatment of Iranian citizens abroad and ensure their rights are respected.
During his visit, Habibollahzadeh engaged in direct conversations with several Iranian inmates, listening closely to their concerns and personal experiences within the prison. These discussions provided the ambassador with valuable insights into the challenges faced by the prisoners and their needs.
In addition to meeting with the inmates, Habibollahzadeh held talks with the prison authorities, where he stressed the importance of upholding the rights of Iranian detainees. He specifically urged the authorities to facilitate more frequent family visits, recognizing the vital role that family support plays in the well-being of prisoners.
The ambassador was accompanied by a consular team from the Iranian embassy, who provided additional support during the visit. The consular officials conducted individual meetings with approximately 100 Iranian prisoners, offering consular services to those who required assistance. This included addressing legal concerns, facilitating communication with families, and ensuring that the prisoners’ rights are being observed.
At present, around 170 Iranian nationals are serving sentences at Sincan Prison.
